STEM Work in P5/6!

10th Feb 2020

Today for our Numeracy activities in P5/6, we decided to combine our knowledge of the properties of 3D Shapes with our understanding of STEM, in particular, building structures. We thought it would be great to build our own shapes out of every day materials. We discussed what the best type of material was to use to ensure that our shapes would be sturdy yet easily manipulated into the shapes we wanted. We all agreed that bendy plastic straws and Blu-Tack would be the best to use; we used the straws for the edges of the shape and to create the faces and the Blu-Tack became our shapes' vertices!

We had so much fun experimenting with ideas to make our shapes better, for example shorter straws, more Blu-Tack to hold, a larger base or doubling up on resources to make our shape stronger. What a great STEM session!
