Rainbow Skittle Experiment

19th Jan 2026

This morning, Primary 3 and 4 took part in an experiment, making their own rainbows. We discovered that the water dissolved the sugary shell of our skittles, causing them to turn white, and allowing the rainbow to form. This is a good example of how other colours come from light which is also white. We will think further about how rainbows are made as part of our literacy work on Explanations this week as well as throughout our topic of Weather in WAU.

We had lots of fun watching the colours merge and of course we enjoyed some skittles after all our hard work!
